  • Strip the Cable: Use a coaxial cable stripper to remove about 1 to 1.5 inches of the outer insulation, exposing the shield and the inner dielectric. Be careful not to damage the shield or the center conductor.
  • Prepare the Shield: Fold back the braided shield over the outer insulation. If the shield is made of foil or a similar material, gently fold it back as well.
  • Trim the Dielectric: Trim the dielectric (the white or clear insulating layer around the center conductor) so that about 1/4 inch of the center conductor is exposed. Ensure the dielectric is cut cleanly and evenly.
  • Insert the Cable into the Connector: Slide the prepared cable into the TNC connector. The center conductor should go into the pin of the connector, while the shield should make contact with the connector’s body.
  • Crimp the Connector: Use a crimping tool designed for coaxial connectors to crimp the connector onto the cable. The crimping tool will press a metal sleeve around the connector, securing it in place. Make sure the connector is properly aligned during this process.
  • Check the Connection: Inspect the connector to ensure it’s properly attached and that there are no sharp edges or exposed wires. The connector should fit snugly on the cable without any loose parts.
