1. Prepare the Cable:
– Strip the Outer Jacket: Use the cable stripping tool to remove approximately 1.5 to 2 inches of the outer jacket from the coaxial cable.
– Expose the Shielding: Pull back the braided shield to reveal the dielectric insulation underneath.
– Strip the Dielectric: Strip the dielectric insulation to expose the center conductor. The exposed length of the center conductor should be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
2. **Prepare the Connector**:
– Insert the Cable: Slide the coaxial cable through the connector’s mounting holes and into the connector body. Ensure the center conductor aligns with the connector’s center pin, and the shield is aligned with the outer part of the connector.
3. **Solder the Connection**:
– Solder the Center Conductor: Heat the center pin of the connector with the soldering iron and feed solder into the pin while pressing the center conductor into it. Allow the solder to flow around the conductor and pin. Let it cool without moving the connector to avoid cold solder joints.
– Solder the Shield: The shield is typically connected to the outer body of the connector. Heat the shield area and apply solder to secure it to the connector body. Make sure the solder flows properly to create a solid connection.
4. **Mount the Connector**:
– Align the Connector: Align the connector with the mounting holes on your panel or enclosure.
– Secure the Connector: Use screws to secure the connector in place. Ensure it is firmly attached and that the solder joints are not disturbed during this process.
5. **Inspect the Assembly**:
– Check Solder Joint: Verify that the solder joints are clean and well-formed. Ensure there are no solder bridges or weak connections.
– Test the Connection: Optionally, test the connection with appropriate equipment to ensure that it’s functioning correctly and there are no issues with signal transmission.
6. **Apply Heat Shrink Tubing** (Optional):
– Insulate the Cable: Slide heat shrink tubing over the connection if additional insulation and strain relief are needed. Apply heat to shrink the tubing around the cable and connector.
