  • Prepare the Cable:

    – Remove the Shielding: After stripping the outer jacket, pull back the braided shielding carefully to expose the dielectric insulation underneath.
    – Expose the Dielectric and Center Conductor: Strip the dielectric insulation to expose the center conductor. Be careful not to nick or damage the center conductor.
  • Prepare the Connector:
    – Slide the Ferrule: On the UHF male connector, there should be a metal ferrule (sleeve) that needs to be crimped onto the braided shield of the cable. Slide this ferrule onto the cable before connecting the rest of the connector parts.
  • Attach the Connector:
    – Insert the Cable into the Connector: Carefully insert the stripped end of the LMR 400 cable into the UHF connector. Ensure that the center conductor goes through the pin in the connector and that the shield aligns properly with the ferrule.
  • Crimp the Connector:
    – Crimp the Ferrule: Use the crimping tool to crimp the ferrule onto the braided shield of the cable. This secures the shield to the connector and ensures good electrical contact.
    – Crimp the Center Pin: Next, use the crimping tool to crimp the center pin onto the center conductor. Make sure the center conductor is properly inserted into the pin and that the crimping is done securely.
  • Check the Assembly:
    – Inspect the Connection: Verify that the connector is firmly attached and that there are no loose parts. Ensure the center pin is correctly aligned and the shield is properly crimped.
    – Test the Connection: Optionally, you can test the connection for continuity and signal integrity to ensure everything is working correctly.
